Two-timescale evolution on a singular landscape
Under the effect of strong genetic drift, it is highly probable to observe gene fixation or gene loss in a population, shown by infinite peaks on a coherently constructed potential energy landscape. It is then important to ask what such singular peaks imply, with or without the effects of other biological factors. We studied the stochastic escape time from the infinite potential peaks in the Wr...
متن کاملOn subalgebras of an evolution algebra of a "chicken" population
We consider an evolution algebra which corresponds to a bisexual population with a set of females partitioned into finitely many different types and the males having only one type. For such algebras in terms of its structure constants we calculate right and plenary periods of generator elements. Some results on subalgebras of EACP and ideals on low-dimensional EACP are obtained.
متن کاملEvolution on a smooth landscape
We study in detail a recently proposed simple discrete model for evolution on smooth landscapes. An asymptotic solution of this model for long times is constructed. We find that the dynamics of the population is governed by correlation functions that although being formally down by powers of N (the population size), nonetheless control the evolution process after a very short transient. The lon...
متن کاملEstablishing a time-scale for plant evolution.
• Plants have utterly transformed the planet, but testing hypotheses of causality requires a reliable time-scale for plant evolution. While clock methods have been extensively developed, less attention has been paid to the correct interpretation and appropriate implementation of fossil data. • We constructed 17 calibrations, consisting of minimum constraints and soft maximum constraints, for di...
متن کاملOn the evolution of a singular vortex patch in a two-dimensional incompressible fluid flow
The angle evolution of a tangent-slope discontinuity on a singular vortex patch, i.e. a patch of vorticity with tangent discontinuities in its boundary, is studied from a numerical and theoretical point of view. Different numerical examples show that the angle shrinks for an initial angle less than 90◦, the angle widens when the initial angle is greater than 90◦ or is approximately preserved fo...
